Day Trip 1: Tibble Creek Reservoir
Tibble Creek Reservoir is near the top of American Fork Canyon and is about a 45-minute drive from Starhaven Villas. The reservoir is surrounded by beautiful trees and mountain vegetation. There is a small fee at the entrance of the canyon. Pack a picnic lunch, bring your hiking gear, or rent a kayak or paddleboard. Tibble Creek offers a variety of possible activities. On a hot summer day, put on your suit or water clothes, rent a kayak, and enjoy the day on the cool, freshwater reservoir. Be sure to go up on a weekday, weekends tend to be much busier.

If you don’t feel like getting wet, bring your hiking gear. There are many hiking trails to choose from. You can enjoy the gorgeous wildflowers, trees, and brush as you ascend the mountain. You’ll love seeing the wildlife and may even catch a glimpse of a moose or deer. Don’t forget your camera to capture the fun of your day trip!

Day Trip 2: Timpanogos Cave National Monument
Halfway up American Fork Canyon is Timpanogos Cave National Monument. It is about a 33-minute drive from Starhaven Villas. Be prepared for a semi-steep 1.5-mile hike up to the cave. The hike is worth it with the breathtaking views of the valley below and the beautiful mountain scenery. The To enter the cave, you must take a guided tour. The cool temperature of the cave is a welcome reprieve from a warm summer day and the hike up. This tour takes you through the vast cavern system of Mt. Timpanogos. You learn the fascinating process of the natural formations inside and the history of the cave. You can usually walk up and get in on a tour on weekdays, but if you’re planning to go on the weekends, it is recommended that you reserve a spot online. Reservations can be made up to 30 days in advance.

Day Trip 3: Midway and Heber City
Along the back of the Wasatch Mountain Range lies a gorgeous valley. In this valley are the sister towns of Midway and Heber City. Midway was settled by Swiss immigrants and was dubbed by them “Utah’s Swiss Alps”. Heber City was settled by English immigrants. Within these 2 towns are a myriad of activities to enjoy.

Spend the day at the Homestead in Midway and play a round of golf or relax in the hot mineral springs of the Homestead Crater. The cuisine at the Homestead is delectable and will leave you with a desire to return often.

If you’re looking to get away in the winter months, Midway hosts a exquisite exhibit called the Midway Ice Castle. You can wander the maze of colorful, lighted snow and ice in this magical winter wonderland. Be sure to bundle up!

In Heber City you will find the Heber Valley Railroad, formerly know as the Heber Creeper. They also offer scenic themed excursions such as Monday Night Train, North Pole Express, Murder Mystery, the Tube ‘n Train (snow tubing and train ride), and the Rafts ‘n Rails (river rafting and train ride).

Day Trip 4: Park City
Northwest of Heber City is the famous mountain resort of Park City. Here you will find an explosion of activity options. Many of the 2002 Winter Olympic events were held here. During the summer, you can go on a zipline tour or experience extreme tubing at the Utah Olympic Park.

If art and culture is more your scene, there are many possibilities from the Egyptian Theatre to the Deer Valley Music Festival. On Main St. you’ll find a plethora of art galleries and exhibits as well as local artisans displaying selling their fare.

The Park City Resort offers many fun, family-friendly activities. The Alpine Coaster gives you the beauty of a ride up the mountain on a ski lift and the exhilaration of a ride on a cart-like toboggan down a kilometer long slide with twists and turns that will leave you laughing.
