With Thanksgiving just around the corner, we here at Starhaven Villas wanted to take a minute to remind ourselves of how to show gratitude to others:
Be Present
Take some time out to spend time with friends and family. Just being there is a wonderful way to show your gratitude for the relationship and connection. When you spend time together, be present. Actively listen and let the other person fully express themselves. Ask clarifying and follow up questions to completely understand. Make eye contact and smile. The touch of a hand or hug are also ways to demonstrate your appreciation for the relationship.
Send a Written Note
Thank you notes can be written all throughout the year for specific occasions. However, now might be a great time to write a special letter to express your gratitude for a friend, child, spouse, or co-worker. Express your gratitude for having this person in your life. Mention the important role they have in your relationship and refer to specific examples that demonstrate how much they mean to you. Letters are also a great place to compliment a friend on a particular talent or trait they have and which you admire.
Help or Volunteer
This is a great time of year to express your gratitude by paying it forward. There are many opportunities to do this. You can donate to the local food bank every time you grocery shop or search the internet for an opportunity that works best for and is important for you. It doesn’t matter how big or small the action or financial contribution is, the important thing is to reflect on all the things you are grateful for and pay it forward in some way.
Host or Attend a Gathering & Say Thank You!
I’ve attended a few gatherings already this season where someone has vocally expressed their gratitude for a business or social relationship. This has been so heartfelt! It makes those around you feel appreciated and valued. What a wonderful time of year to share these thoughts! Don’t let the season go by without getting the chance to express your gratitude before we are underway with the hustle and bustle of Christmas!
